The FC2 internal condom (sometimes known as the Female Condom) is approved by the FDA and provides protection against unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV/AIDS.
Though we love the FC2 and sold it in our store for over a decade, The FC2 is no longer available through retailers. But don't worry, you can still get the FC2 in a few different ways. Your local health clinic may have FC2 available, and it is covered as a prescription under most insurance-- just ask your health care provider.
The FC2 is a thin sheath made of nitrile polymer with a soft ring at each end. It is designed to be inserted vaginally, with one ring inserted internally and the other, larger ring resting outside of the body, covering part of the perineum and vulva. The ring worn in the internal portion of the condom fits over the cervix and rests behind the pubic bone, acting as an anchor. The FC2 comes with complete instructions and diagrams on how to use them properly. Once you get the hang of it, they are a breeze for most people!
The FC2 comes pre-lubricated with a thin layer of silicone lubricant. Because it is made of nitrile (rather than latex), the FC2 is okay to use for persons with latex sensitivity. The FC2 is also compatible with all types of lubricants, including oil-based lubes.
Traditional external condoms (sometimes also called "male" condoms) and internal condoms should not be used at the same time, because the added friction between the two condoms could cause them to break. Like external condoms, the FC2 internal condom is intended for onetime use.
Though the FC2 is often called the "female condom", it can be used by people of any gender.
Also, many clever users have learned to use this condom for receptive anal intercourse. The internal ring can be removed when using the condom for anal intercourse. Technically this is an "off-label" use, but as this is one of the few non-latex barriers on the market (safe for people with latex allergies and safe for oil-based lube use), it is an option that many people enjoy using for anal sex.
FC2 is the second generation internal condom to the FC1, providing the same safety and efficacy during use. However, FC2 is made from softer and thinner synthetic nitrile material than the original FC1. FC2 is hypoallergenic and heat conductive, warming to body temperature for a more natural feel.
Again, retailers are no longer allowed to sell the FC2 directly to consumers-- beware other sites that offer the FC2, as they may not be authentic. But don't worry, you can still get the FC2 in a few different ways.
