In-person Event Policies
Please bear in mind that The Tool Shed's physical location is a sexuality boutique. As such, we require that event and class attendees be at least 18 years of age.
How to reserve a spot in a class
Reservations for classes may be purchased on Forbidden Tickets, a third party website that we use to manage ticket sales. The ticket link for each event will be included in that event's listing-- that link will take you to our event page on the Forbidden Tickets site. When you purchase a ticket, you will receive an email confirmation, and your name will be added to the guest list for that event-- no paper ticket will be mailed (unless otherwise specified).
When to arrive for a class
The door for most events will open 15 minutes prior to the event’s start time.
For evening classes, we typically close the store at 8:00pm (5:00pm on Sundays) and keep it closed for 10-15 minutes while we set up our classroom space. If you plan on arriving at closing time, we may ask you to exit the store temporarily for a few minutes so our staff and instructors can prepare the space for the event. There is usually some time after the class or event has finished to be able to make purchases in the store.
Class and event location
Most classes and events are held at our storefront at 2427 N Murray Avenue in Milwaukee, WI. When events are held at a different site, we will note that location clearly in the event description.
Refund policy
Purchasing a reservation for a class guarantees your spot in the class. We have limited seating in our space, and we do not oversell classes. Reserving a seat for a class essentially prevents another person from being able to purchase that seat-- much like with a concert ticket. As a result, we only allow for refunds in limited circumstances. You will be fully refunded for your reservation if you notify us at least one week before the scheduled class date. If you notify us within less than week of the scheduled class date, we will only refund your ticket in the event that we are able to sell the spot to another attendee.
Waiting list policy
If you are unable to reserve a space in the event of a sellout, you may feel free to add your name to the waiting list for that class. The waiting list will be available via the ticket purchasing link on our third party ticket sales provider. If any spots become open in the class, we will contact people on the waiting list as soon as possible. Due to the time-sensitive nature of waiting lists, if we cannot reach you we will move on to the next person on the waiting list. Any and all waiting list activity will be closed by one day before the event start time. We will only contact you if a spot opens up in the class; you will not receive any additional follow-up if there are no available openings.
Free class attendance policy
Some of the classes we offer are free, but still require preregistration. If a free event requires registration, we will make that clear in the event description.
Other free classes and events do not require advanced registration. We will make this clear in the event description. In the case of free events that do not require registrations, we will accommodate people on a first-come, first-served basis. If the number of event attendees exceeds our capacity, we will have to turn people away.
Class cancellations policy
We rarely cancel scheduled classes, but we are sometimes forced to do so on account of low registration, dangerous weather conditions, or if our instructors experience health issues, personal emergencies, or travel problems. In the event of a class cancellation, we will contact each attendee directly as soon as possible, as well as posting cancellation notices on our web site and our social media. Classes cancelled by the Tool Shed will be fully refunded to attendees who purchased tickets in advance.
The Tool Shed may adjust or change these policies at any time. Our goal is to make the experience of each class as pleasant as possible for both attendees and our guest instructors. Thank you for your cooperation, and for your interest in ongoing sexuality education in our community!
Online/Zoom Event Policies
Your privacy is important to us. When you join a Zoom event that is being hosted by our store, your screen name will be visible to other participants. You may wish to change your screen name temporarily when you join the event. You may also feel free to turn off or cover your camera.
For most online classes or events, we will have a Moderator present. The Moderator’s role is to help field questions, and at times they may also participate as a co-presenter and helper to the instructor.
The Moderator will mute all participant microphones during the class. This limits distracting noises and cross-talk.
Participants can ask questions during the event by messaging them directly to the Moderator, who will read any questions aloud during any Q&A portion or, if appropriate, during the presentation itself.
Â
Participants can feel free to use the chat area to communicate about the event as it is happening. Please be mindful of the language you choose to use in the chat area. In the interest of fostering an open and welcoming environment, we ask that all of us strive to maintain a respectful, inclusive, and harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, ability, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, level of experience, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.
Â
The Moderator is also present to handle any conduct issues that may arise. If you are being messaged privately by another participant in a way that makes you uncomfortable, please alert the Moderator so that they may address the situation directly.
