Want a super fun and cute way to learn more about bodies? GiantMicrobes are here to entertain, educate, and cuddle. These plush toys are about 5 inches in height. This one also has detachable ovaries, which connect to the fallopian tubes by magnets.
Everyone starts life in a uterus-- it is the place where a fetus develops during pregnancy. The uterus is a muscular organ, shaped like an inverted pear. The fallopian tubes are located on both sides of the uterus, along with ovaries containing thousands of human egg cells. The ovaries also secrete the hormones estrogen and progesterone.
While people with testes produce millions of sperm during their lives, people with ovaries are born with a lifetime trove of several million eggs. By adulthood, only about 400,000 of those eggs remain. Typically, only one egg will mature each month and take a journey down a fallopian tube to the uterus-- this pattern happens pretty regularly from the onset of menses (menstrual periods) during purberty until menopause (the end of menstrual periods).
